In 2022, the Deutsche Internationale Schule Pretoria celebrated 50 years of Matric at the school. A special jubilee DSP Rose was cultivated by Ludwig’s Roses to mark this milestone in the school’s journey.

This special jubilee class of 2022 consisted of 47 promising learners who achieved a 100% pass rate. The group also boasts a total of 117 subject distinctions, with an average of 2.4% distinctions per pupil. All of these learners passed with admission to study for a Bachelor’s degree.

Last year was also Principal Manuel Haß’s first year at the DSP. Commenting on the jubilee rose, he said: "The unfolding petals of our DSP Rose symbolise the DSP as a place where trust, respect, safety, and above all, growth are lived”.

As a German School Abroad, the DSP is always headed by a principal from Germany to ensure the high standard of both the German curriculum and the international qualification the school offers.

Seventeen class of 2022 learners completed the German International Abitur, with an excellent average score of 2.1.

The German International Abitur is an internationally-acclaimed university preparatory curriculum and diploma that provides an academically exceptional and culturally rich multilingual education to students of all nationalities and backgrounds. It is founded on the German education model of teaching, which emphasises developing independence in children, encourages critical thinking, supports children taking ownership for their learning process, and stresses the development of creative problem-solving skills.

Saskia Adrian, Luna Rudner-Stokell, Anja Slabber and Emma Smythe each achieved eight subject distinctions.

Nine distinctions:

Dagmawit Terefe (NSC IEB)

Terefe was also the DSP Dux learner for 2022 and received a bursary of R10 000 from the University of Pretoria at the Valediction of 2022 to help cover tuition fees.

Eight distinctions:

Saskia Adrian (Kombi-Abitur), Luna Rudner-Stokell (Kombi-Abitur), Anja Slabber (Kombi-Abitur), Emma Smythe (Kombi-Abitur)

Seven distinctions:

Angelika Brandl (Kombi-Abitur), Hlompho Mophuti (NSC IEB), Daniela Setzer (NSC IEB)

Five distinctions:

Kgaabi Moloto (NSC IEB)

Four distinctions:

Bianca Engling (Kombi-Abitur), Pelly Baloyi (NSC IEB), Chawezi Banda (NSC IEB), Kearabetswe Phala (NSC IEB)

“The excellent results of our learners show that our pedagogical concept is successful,” explains Ms Kapfhammer, who co-ordinates the combined South African and German qualification at the DSP. “Our learners are individually supported, even under difficult conditions, and optimally prepared for the dual qualification of the Abitur and the NSC.”

Angelika Brandl, Hlompho Mophuti and Daniela Setzer each achieved seven subject distinctions.

A dual school-leaving certificate comprises:

  • The German International Abitur and the National Senior Certificate (NSC) from the Independent Examination Board (IEB), called the Kombi-Abitur; or
  • The NSC from the IEB together with the German Language Diploma Level 2.

“The students at the DSP following the NSC course have a unique opportunity to complete a qualification that allows access to both a South African university as well as tertiary study abroad. The DSP environment exposes learners to a culture and language that opens many doors for our enthusiastic and motivated learners,” concludes Ms Langley, who co-ordinates the NSC at the DSP.
