Pretoria - Former Utility Services MMC in Tshwane Darryl Moss has been hailed by councillors from different political parties as a man of integrity who contributed positively to service delivery in the metro.

This was as Moss, who is an engineer by profession, prepares to officially bow out from his job as a DA councillor on Thursday.

He was among the first MMCs who served under the first-ever coalition government in Tshwane led by the DA after the 2016 municipal elections.

He worked under former mayor Solly Msimanga for almost three years before he was fired by Msimanga’s successor Steven Mokgalapa in February 2019.

Political parties in Tshwane bade farewell to Moss, who will be going into retirement after many years in politics.

Freedom Front-Plus councillor, Sakkie du Plooy, wished him well and a healthy life.

He described him as a leader who was really on top of the department he led as a political head.

He said Moss was leaving behind “wisdom and experience” with those still in public service.

ACDP councillor Ronald Morake described him as a man of character and integrity with lots of experience.

Abel Tau said: “The striking personal traits that you will always find in him was a very calm, always calculative man.”

In 2016, Tau said, the coalition government needed men and women who were going to lead from the front and Moss was one of them.

“I got the rare privilege of taking over the department that he led over time. He was humble enough to take me by the hand and he was available for me. He assisted me. I drew a lot of strength from the challenges that he faced in the department and I knew that I could always turn to him for assistance at any given point,” he said.

ANC caucus leader Joel Masilela alluded to the fact that Moss served the residents of Tshwane with distinction.

He said the ANC celebrated him for selflessly contributing his life to humanity and we “take off our hats to you”.

“We are grateful as the ANC for the great work he had done,” Masilela said.

Former Tshwane DA councillor Cilliers Brink, now an MPL, described Moss as “a veteran of our party and Pretoria, and a wonderful man”.

"It was a privilege to serve with Darryl in the municipal council and on the mayoral committee,“ he said.
