South African media personality Dineo Ranaka has opened up about her recent hair transplant procedure, candidly documenting her journey on Instagram.

The popular television and radio presenter, best known for her appearances on "The Ranakas" and "Dineo’s Diary", has shared her battle with a receding hairline, revealing that she underwent a hair transplant to address the issue.

On her Instagram page, Ranaka posted a video showing the process of her procedure. "Remember last week, I posted a story about an appointment confirmation from the Sandton Hair Transplant Clinic? Well, it's day number 2, post-procedure. Guys, I'm so happy. Please join me on my journey and follow the process. Okay? So you can learn to trust the process if you also want,” she said.

The video was followed up by a caption from the hair transplant clinic saying that the challenges of thinning hair are due to various factors, including hormonal changes and the effects of tight hairstyles, which led to traction alopecia.

"Join us on her HAIR TRANSPLANT journey as she tackles thinning hair from multifactorial causes such as hormonal changes, hypothyroidism, and those tight hairstyles leading to traction alopecia. A permanent solution to progress to be posted in 4-6 months.”

In an update posted five days after the procedure, Ranaka continued to document her progress.

“Hair Transplant Update Day 5: We're doing great! Daily routine of the Proskin Foam 20-minute soak. It cleanses and moisturises the scalp. I can't sleep on my sides (to prevent damage to the implants) so I sleep facing up (for the first ten days). So far, so good. In the meantime, I'm continuing to watch what I eat. I believe in helping any cosmetic or medical procedure by also keeping to a healthy regime.”

Ranaka also spoke about the difficulty of maintaining her fitness routine while recovering from the procedure.

“If you're planning on getting a hair transplant procedure done and you love body training at the gym, you're in for a toughie just like me! 21 days downtime, doctor's orders. Excessive sweating is not encouraged in the beginning stages. To not train for 21 days would drive me crazy, so I got permission to do very low-intensity workouts... the aim is not to sweat.”
