Tourist attraction and local favourite Benguela Cove is a great destination for a one-day escape.
Situated between Hermanus and Cape Town and surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds, the wine estate sports contemporary art and sculptures.
The estate, which boasts lush vineyards and olive groves, is surrounded by a lagoon that hosts the Lady Bonnie pontoon boat, which provides maritime leisure.
While sipping on award-winning wines as you make your way inside the cellar, you enjoy the distinct smell of the ocean.
The Walker Bay wine farm won the ‘Cellar Door Experience of the Year’ award and received medals of excellence for all 10 wine entries. Each wine achieved a points rating of 90 or more, out of 100.
The cellar door experience at Benguela Cove wine estate includes the Moody Lagoon restaurant and a popular wine-tasting pontoon. They offer wine and cheese or chocolate pairings, winemaking experiences, a programme of major art exhibitions, music, year-round events and children’s entertainment.
Benguela Cove wine estate owner Penny Streeter said they were delighted to receive these awards.
“We’re delighted to be selected for the top award from so many outstanding cellar door experiences in South Africa,” she said.
“It recognises our commitment to eco-tourism and the environment, as well as superb wines. Benguela is a unique destination, it’s at the lowest height, at sea level, and with the longest seaboard of any vineyard in the world.”
