As 2025 gets underway, Cape Town has once again put itself firmly on the global travel map by being named the Best Long-Haul City Break in the World for British travellers. This accolade, awarded in a recent survey by Which?, is a testament to the city's unmatchable allure and experience.

Over 1,500 UK travellers rated their adventures across nearly 2,500 destinations beyond Europe, weighing criteria such as food and drink, accommodation, cultural attractions, shopping, navigability, crowds, and value for money.

In a fiercely competitive field that included renowned destinations like Tokyo, Sydney, Dubai, and Los Angeles, Cape Town emerged as the unanimous choice. Rory Boland, editor at Which? Travel, encapsulated this achievement by reiterating the city's multifaceted appeal.

“Some cities are one-trick ponies, but the standout destinations in this year’s survey have it all – each offering unique cultural sights, top-class food and drink, and even sublime scenery,” he said.

With its breathtaking landscapes harmonising with vibrant city life, Cape Town proved it has what it takes to captivate visitors.

This latest triumph follows Cape Town's previous accolade as Time Out’s Best City in the World, solidifying its status as the premier destination for global travellers seeking an unforgettable experience in 2025. So, what sets Cape Town apart from the competition? The answer lies within its stunning natural beauty, exceptional culinary offerings, and unbeatable affordability. Imagine sipping cocktails on Signal Hill, indulging in the freshest fish and chips in Hout Bay, or immersing oneself in an electrifying nightlife scene—all while staying within budget.

As one discerning traveller noted, “Cape Town is probably the world holiday destination where your pound will go furthest.”

Enver Duminy, CEO of Cape Town Tourism, expressed his excitement over this global recognition.

“Cape Town isn’t just a place; it’s a living, breathing masterpiece of art, culture, and heritage. Our art scene? It’s not just good; it’s world-class, and we’ve got galleries and street art that’ll make your Instagram explode.” He continued, emphasising the deep historical narratives tourists can experience beyond what any guidebook might hint at.

The recognition of Cape Town as a leading global travel destination holds significant implications beyond tourism. James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, highlighted the city’s appeal as a pivotal driver for economic success and job creation.

“What makes Cape Town so special is that it’s not just a place to visit; it’s a place to experience. One minute, you’re hiking up Lion’s Head; the next, you’re sipping award-winning wine in Durbanville; and by evening, you’re enjoying fresh seafood with an ocean view. The best part? It contributes directly to our local economy, creating thousands of jobs and stimulating growth. You can do it all and still have room in your pocket for more!”

Cape Town continues to showcase its charm, earning favour not just among locals but also drawing admiration from travellers across the globe. With its consistent global recognition and the rich tapestry of experiences it offers, Cape Town remains the city on everyone’s lips—set to shine brightly through 2025 and beyond.
