TWO brothers accused of shooting and killing a Mount Edgecombe businessman have been arrested and are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Shailen Singh, 32, who owned Shails Trans, a logistics company, was shot multiple times while seated in his vehicle at a restaurant's parking lot in Meridian Drive, Umhlanga, on Sunday morning.
The father of one was shot in the head, neck and abdomen. He died at the scene.
Gareth Naidoo, spokesperson for KZN VIP, said paramedics together with reaction officers and multiple other emergency services attended the scene.
“A male was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat of his bakkie. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body. Sadly, nothing could be done to save the victim and he had been declared deceased.”
Colonel Robert Netshiunda, a provincial police spokesperson, said the two men, aged 40 and 35, were arrested by detectives from the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Organised Crime - Murder and Robbery Unit on Wednesday.
“Two vehicles, which were seen leaving the crime scene after the murder, were also recovered.”
Meanwhile, Singh’s family have since called for justice. They started a Facebook page, Justice for Shailen Singh, and a petition.
A post on the page reads: This tragedy stripped a family of its beloved. It is time we demand a thorough and speedy investigation, plus, an assurance from the authorities of a fair trial and a comprehensive crackdown on violent crime with no bail for the suspects. Join us in this fight for justice.”
His funeral was held at his home January 1.
