The recent launch of the Prem Sai Ashram serves as a place for Hindus in Ballito to call home.
Paul Naidoo, one of the devotees who was instrumental in launching the ashram on November 17, said: "A lot of Indian people have moved to the area and the Hindu community had to travel far north or south to worship, so we needed a place to call home. The ashram is on a property of mine in the Ashley Park Business Park."
He said prior to the ashram opening, services were held at the Scout Hall at Townsend Park in Ballito.
"But the place was not conducive as it was a community hall that hosted various events, so we had to get a place of our own."
The ashram, dedicated to Sathya Sai Baba, can accommodate 200 people.
"Currently, we have about 100 devotees. Our service is held on Sunday from 7.45am to 9am. We welcome people of any beliefs to join us, as Sathya Sai Baba's teaching is to 'love and serve all'.
“We hope to spread spirituality, education, and, most importantly, be involved in seva (selfless service). We are involved in a lot of humanitarian work to serve the public.”
