KAIZER Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr has stated that the club are seeking to avoid yet another transfer market catastrophe ahead of the new season.

Amakhosi are about to unleash the wiry expertise of Tunisian tactician Nasreddine Nabi with his new-look technical team.

Nabi will jump into a role previously occupied by three different individuals in the last two seasons, with Arthur Zwane, Molefi Ntseki and Cavin Johnson all taking a shot at being Chiefs head coach.

Alongside these coaching appointments have also been mass exits, as well as recruitments that have been nothing short of poor, extending their trophy drought to nine years.

Chiefs have already done business in the current transfer window, with the signings of Bongani Sam, Rushwin Dortley, Fiacre Ntwari and Gaston Sirino.

The club are also said to be looking for another left-back, with the likes of Stellenbosch FC’s Fawaaz Basadien and AmaZulu’s Riaan Hanamub on their radar.

Motaung has been central to the club’s new ambitions and admitted that they’ve made blunders in the past, but were now determined to do things the right way in assembling this new “era”.

“There’s a lot of things we’ve found that we need to change, and to be fair, it’s not just about bringing a coach or bringing in the right type of player and the environment, but it’s a combination of many factors,” he said.

“If we’re fair as a club, we’ve let ourselves down in a few areas, whether in recruitment, preparation or the environment that we’ve had here as a club, and we have to put our hands up as a club and have honest conversations about what we need to do.

“Even in how we’re treating the transfer market now is very calculated and very specific, and as a club, have we done the supporters a disservice? Yes, we have, and it’s time we sat down and looked at what we need to do about that.”

The 43-year-old Motaung is in his fourth year as the club’s sporting director, having been appointed in July 2021.

It has been a difficult first three seasons for the former Chiefs striker, with many pointing fingers at him for the club’s dismal work in the transfer market.

‘Junior’ expressed his desire to help the only club he’s played for on South African soil, and explained how he’d use the club’s previous accolades as a benchmark.

“Any position anyone occupies as part of this brand is a privilege. Like anyone else, whether a player (or not), we all want to contribute to the success, and I want to be able to take this club to the next level,” he said

“If you look at the achievements our chairman (his father Kaizer Motaung) has achieved, we have a clear strategy on what we should achieve, based on what the club has done domestically in the past.

“We also want to see this club do well on the continental stage and the world, so there’s time-lines for that as well,” he added.
