There are more than 200 000 South Africans living in Australia and there are many more South Africans hoping to one day to cross over onto the greener pastures of the land Down Under.

However, Australian-born Edwina Robertson, aka “Queen of the Safari” (@edwinarobertson), went against the grain and left Australia for South Africa.

The Aussie took to social media platform, TikTok, to explain her top three reasons why she decided on the big move.

She currently resides in the Mother City, Cape Town, and is on a tourist visa.

@edwinarobertson Is this place the World's best kept secret? Having never been here before, not knowing anyone, and moving here on an intuitive pull, there is so much that could have gone wrong... it was a HUGE gamble! However going against the grain with being an Australian moving to South Africa (have only heard of two other Aussies permanently based here) I wanted to share with you why already in a week, this is the best move l've ever made in terms that Aussies will understand. 1. Cape Town is the big grown up sister to Hobart. With a population of 5 million compared to Hobart's 200,000 everything you'd love about Hobart is here but on a much larger scale. The weather, the food, the wine, the outdoor activities are all just some of the things that are comparable to anywhere in Australia. If you love Hobart and Tassie, you'd love it here! 2. The people. I have honestly never been to a friendly more welcoming place. One week in I have a contact list full of people so warm and inviting who want to make this large life adjustment for me as easy as possible. My heart is full. 3. The limitless amount of things to do. There is so much to do here, it's almost overwhelming. Whether you're into the great outdoors, a foodie, you love the arts or you're down for finding quaint, unique stores Cape Town has it all. I have never felt at peace so quickly anywhere and I truly can't believe (as an Australian) why Cape Town isn't a place that more Aussies relocate to. One week in and I'm OBSESSED. ❤️ #capetown #aussiesabroad #southafrica #lekker ♬ original sound - Queen of the Safari

According to Robertson, Cape Town is the big grown up sister to Hobart, a city in Australia.

“With a population of 5 million compared to Hobart's 200 000 everything you'd love about Hobart is here but on a much larger scale.

“The weather, the food, the wine, the outdoor activities are all just some of the things that are comparable to anywhere in Australia,” said Robertson.

Another reason why Robertson loves Mzansi is “the people”.

“I have honestly never been to a friendly more welcoming place. One week in I have a contact list full of people so warm and inviting who want to make this large life adjustment for me as easy as possible. My heart is full,” she said.

Lastly, she loves the limitless number of things to do in Mzansi.

“There is so much to do here, it's almost overwhelming. Whether you're into the great outdoors, a foodie, you love the arts or you're down for finding quaint, unique stores Cape Town has it all.

“I have never felt at peace so quickly anywhere and I truly can't believe (as an Australian) why Cape Town isn't a place that more Aussies relocate to,” she said.

Of course, South African TikTok users were kind enough to give Robertson a warm welcome in true South African spirit.

@igumbi said: “Welcome to the mother city🥳we about to enter spring and summer's around the corner. Perfect time to relocate😉.”

Another user, @philiphaywood835, said: “Welcome to the most beautiful country in the world, we rock.”

Whilst @michael_rossi_13 said: “Welcome you made a good choice 👌.”
