It looks like there's a feud brewing between top US model Naomi Campbell and fashion expert, Anna Wintour.
It was reported that at the Annual Harlem's Fashion Row Fashion Show & Style Awards on Tuesday, September 3, in New York City, the fashion icons threw shade at each other.
It all started with Wintour addressing the audience about Campbell’s late-coming tendencies.
“I am a very punctual person and I have the honour of presenting tonight to someone who is often late,” said the editor-in-chief of Vogue.
She also spoke highly of Campbell before throwing another jab, saying she knows her as a fearless woman.
“I can tell you that being on the receiving end of that fearlessness can be, oh, what can I say, quite exciting,” Wintour added. “But it’s her honesty that makes her so incredible to be around, a muse and inspiration for designers.”
Wintour, who was supposed to present the fashion icon award to Campbell, reportedly left the event, handing Harper’s Bazaar Editor-in-Chief, Samira Nasr, the honours of doing so.
Campbell arrived fashionably late and responded to Wintour’s shade by saying: “It’s so important that I’m here today and I’m honoured to be here in Harlem...
“Everything’s going to work out the way it’s going to work out. It wasn’t my choice to have the other lady [referring to Wintour]. I’d much rather have this,” said the supermodel, pointing at Nasr.
Fashion lovers hope that whatever may be happening between the two can be resolved because they have come a long way. Lest we forget that Wintour played a huge part in the success of Campbell’s modelling career.
In 1989, she spotlighted the model by putting her on the cover of Vogue US, making her the first black woman to cover the September issue of the gloss.
