Dance movies seem to strike that perfect balance between edge-of-your-seat action and irresistible romance. Even if you are not a dancer yourself (but especially if you are!), you can’t help but tap your toes while rooting for the good guy in the inevitable dance-off.

Hear Me Move (Amazon, Apple TV+)
“Hear Me Move” is South Africa’s first dance movie. It highlights South Africa’s township-bred dances, sbujwa, and pantsula.
The movie highlights the fashion, music, and dance of urban Africa, and is set in the heart of Johannesburg. The movie stars an all-South African cast, and actress and socialite Khanyi Mbau is a guest star.
The movie tells the story of Muzi, born and raised in Joburg and the son of a famous street dancer, as he tries to discover the truth about his father’s tragic death 12 years ago.
When he joins forces with his father’s dance partner, Shoes, he finds himself embroiled in a bitter rivalry that pushes him to his limit.
Muzi has to choose between finding out the truth about his father’s death and disappointing his mother, to whom he made a promise never to dance again.
Jiva! (Netflix)
“Jiva!” is a fun and energy-packed drama series that follows the life of the talented street dancer Ntombi, who while juggling the demands of a dead-end job, family responsibility, and a rocky love life, realises that her dance moves could be her ticket out of her working-class neighbourhood in Durban.
The movie boasts an all-African cast, including “The Queen” actress Candice Modiselle, and pan-African choreographer, Sne Mbatha.
From the opening scenes, the series loudly announces that it’s about a celebration of South African youth and dance culture.
The music is a mix of gqom, amapiano, kwaito, and house, and the dance moves are an amalgamation of those styles.
Magic Mike's Last Dance (Showmax)
“Magic Mike's Last Dance” is the third and final entry in the “Magic Mike” franchise and sees Mike Lane forced to return to his former life to pull himself out of dire straits.
Mike takes to the stage again after a lengthy hiatus, following a business deal that went bust, leaving him broke and taking bartender gigs in Florida.
This movie is one of the best as it has a bit of everything; romance, heartbreak, friendship, finding a part of yourself that you may have lost and discovered again because of love.
