10 Mzansi wives have been selected to participate in the local version of the international hit reality show, “Wife Swap”.
The American show, which premiered in 2004, follows wives who deliberately swap lives with another family, usually with dramatically contrasting lifestyles, for two weeks.
Over the course of the eye-opening social experiment, each wife must document the cultural and social differences they and their new families must overcome.
The local version, “Wife Swap South Africa” is set to air weekly from Monday, September 9, at 6pm on SABC3.
According to a statement from the channel: “‘Wife Swap South Africa’ will explore the joys, challenges and the transformative experiences that arise when wives step into each other’s shoes, all while fostering understanding, empathy, and personal growth.”
The two families will be introduced at the start of each episode, giving viewers a glimpse into how their homes are run.
After that, the spouses will depart from their houses to meet their temporary families.
Aided only by an instruction manual left by their predecessor, the swapped spouse must spend the first week living according to the rules of the house.
Here’s where it gets interesting: In the second week the swapped spouse gets to run the household as they see fit.
The light-hearted, poignant and enlightening moments that transform lives and expose what happens behind closed doors are caught on camera.
Each episode ends with the couples getting back together with their partners for a round table conversation where they discuss what they learnt from their experiences and analyse what happened to them.
