E.tv recently announced that its flagship telenovela, “Scandal!” will make history by broadcasting seven days a week. The move started from Saturday, July 13.
Fans welcomed the decision because it meant that they got to see their favourite characters on screen all week long, however, their excitement is fading along with the exit of some of the soapie’s popular characters.
First it was fan favourite, Romeo (Hungani Ndlovu), and then, Lindiwe (Nomvelo Makhanya).
Mathews Rantsoma is the latest cast member to be killed off. Rantsoma played Nhlamulo Maseko.
In the show, as Nhlamulo struggled with being separated from his daughter, Larona, he and his new bride leave for their honeymoon.
But an unexpected incident leads to his mysterious death, leaving everyone wondering what happened.
With the suspense building, the tension heightens on the series as they try to uncover the truth.
According to the channel, the episode which aired on Sunday, July 21, was a “poignant and emotional farewell, showcasing the depth of Nhlamulo's journey and the profound impact he had on the lives of those around him”.
Nhlamulo's funeral will be held on Thursday, August 1, at 7.30pm. The statement invited fans to tune in for an epic send-off.
“This episode promises to be a poignant and memorable event, celebrating the life and legacy of Nhlamulo Maseko.”
Meanwhile, his departure has left fans and fellow characters reeling, setting the stage for the dramatic events to follow.
The production promises that the aftermath of Nhlamulo's death will introduce new characters and explore deeper dynamics within the existing cast.
“Viewers can expect thrilling plot twists, emotional arcs, and the introduction of fresh faces that will enrich the narrative tapestry of ‘Scandal!’.”
Rantsoma left the show to pursue new opportunities.
He thanked everyone, including the crew, for their support and love.
“One of the most important things for me is the unity that came about when we told stories together. People are more exposed to the actors and the directors, some writers and producers, but they never really know the crew - the people who make the actual magic.
“They made telling stories comfortable. They made me vulnerable and comfortable and helped shape certain parts of the story and the character. And for that, I will always be grateful.
“To everyone at ‘Scandal!’, to everyone watching ‘Scandal!’, to everyone who supports ‘Scandal!’: Thank you. On to the next one,” he shared in a statement.
Fans took to Instagram to express their sadness.
“Instead of giving us weekend episodes please close the show all together because all the favourites are gone,” commented @_k_ar_en.k.
