Despite 10-man Kaizer Chiefs picking up their first win in the Betway Premiership since September on Wednesday evening, AmaKhosi coach Nasreddine Nabi was still not a happy man.
Chiefs had the better of proceedings at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane as they beat Richards Bay 2-1. Chiefs opened the scoring in the 21st minute through 20-year-old Wandile Duba before Ashley du Preez doubled his side’s lead shortly after the hour mark.
In fact, Chiefs had their numbers cut by one in the 48th minute when Reeve Frosler was red-carded.
The hosts could have been forgiven for trying to defend their lead at that point, but instead were able to increase it 20 minutes later.
Chiefs into the top six
Only a Yanela Mbuthuma consolation score in added time made the scoreline appear close for Richards Bay.
Their third victory of their campaign sent Chiefs up to sixth place on 10 points. Still, Nabi made it clear he expected more from his troops.
“The efficiency in the final third needs more work,” Nabi told SuperSport TV after the match.
“This (finishing) is a big problem for the team, not only in this game. Maybe against all the teams (we have played) we created too many opportunities without scoring. Maybe it is confidence … but we will work hard on this in the future.”
“It is not because we win, this is the Chiefs level,” he said.
“The objective (at Chiefs) is very high. I think mentally it is good.
“But Chiefs before was the level of (Siphiwe) Tshabalala and Doctor (Khumalo). It is not like it is today.”
