Former Mamelodi Sundowns star Cassius Mailula is set to join North African giants Wydad Casablanca on loan from Major League Soccer (MLS) side Toronto FC.

According to Soccer Laduma, a deal has already been reached between Wydad and Toronto for the 23-year-old to join the Moroccan giants on loan for the 2024/25 season as he seeks to regain his place in the South African national team.

The move to the "Reds and Whites" will also see Mailula reunite with his former Sundowns coach, Rhulani Mokwena, who is believed to have been instrumental in convincing him to join the North African giants.

The Bafana Bafana international joined Toronto in July of last year after having a stand-out season with Masandawana in the Betway Premiership, with the move to the Canadian outfit viewed as a stepping stone in his career.

However, since his arrival at the "Reds" Mailula has struggled for game time with the club’s head coach John Herdman stressing that Mailula needed to wait for his chance as he faced stiff competition in his position.

Mailula ‘s lack of game at Toronto also saw him being dropped from Bafana Bafana, with coach Hugo Broos lamenting his move to the Canadian outfit.

"You know that as an agent it will be very difficult for him and it should have been better that he stayed at Sundowns and played Champions League again.

“But now the (move) it was much too soon and not the right club," Broos told the media at the time.

However, with his move to Wydad, Mailula will be hoping that he regain his form and earn a Bafana recall in the future.
