Despite losing the second T20 International (T20I) to hosts Pakistan in Multan on Wednesday, Proteas women’s player Sune Luus praised her side for delivering a decent performance.

After winning the first T20I on Monday through a disciplined bowling effort as they restricted Pakistan to 122, the second clash presented a different challenge completely.

Batting first Pakistan amassed 181/4, before South Africa came up short with 168/4 in their 20 overs.

They were by no means outclassed said Luus.

‘Left a little too much to do’

“I thought it was a good, high-scoring game of cricket, which is exciting. I think it's just a preview to the World Cup, I think the pitches are going to be pretty similar in the UAE,” said Luus.

“I think we left a little too much there at the end for the last batters to do. But there's always going to be something that went wrong here or there, always you're going to say there should have been a run there, that wide, that miss field or whatever, so it's cricket.

“But I think the girls did well to get to that score still. I take my hat off to Pakistan.”

Luus said that Pakistan were not exactly known for their big-hitting, and the fact that they set over 180 to win was commendable.

“Obviously we would have wanted to get over the line, but it's exciting for our T20 campaign, knowing that those big scores are in us. It's just now to go and assess where we can get those extra 15 runs.

“I think we did amazingly well in the first game and then average in this one. So there's always going to be that one game. But it's just to take these learnings, it's good to have them ahead of the World Cup and take the positives out of it.”
