A polished performance by the Proteas ensured they won their T20 Women’s World Cup match against Scotland at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai by 80 runs on Wednesday.

The win puts South Africa in second place in Group B, and gives them a good chance of advancing to the knockout stages of the competition.

Skipper Laura Wolvaardt (40), Tazmin Brits (43) and veteran Marizanne Kapp (43) all shone with the bat as South Africa set their opponents a commanding target of 167 from their innings.

The opening pair of Wolvaardt and Brits got the ball rolling when they scored 64 for the first wicket as they put the Proteas on the front foot in the encounter.

At the back end of the Proteas’ innings, Sune Luus chipped in with 18 from 13 balls to get the total to 166/5 after their 20 overs in the middle.

In response, Scotland just never got going as they lost wickets at regular intervals without building any solid partnerships.

The pick of the South African bowlers was Nonkululeko Mlaba, who picked up three wickets for just 12 runs from her four overs.

In the end, Scotland were dismissed for 86, giving South Africa an 80 run win.

The Proteas will be next in action on Saturday when they go up against Bangladesh at the same venue.
