Seasoned actor Sello Sebotsane has publicly apologised to his ex-wife Shoki Mmola and their two daughters, Oratile and Karabo, following long-standing allegations of abuse.
In a video that has garnered significant attention, Sebotsane admitted to the abuse and hurt he inflicted upon his family, reflecting a desire to make amends.
The actor, known for his roles in popular television serials such as Stokvel, Those Who Can't, Rockville, and 90 Plein Street, highlighted the need for open dialogue among young boys and men regarding vulnerability and mental health.
“Dumelang, greetings. This is an apology directed to my ex wife Shoki Mmola and my two daughters Oratile and Karabo. For the part I have played in hurting you, harming you. I am deeply sorry. I know word cannot break or cannot mend what is broken. I am working on myself and I am looking forward to working with the young ones to try and stop the scourge because with violence we go nowhere, violence is no answer. It is not right, I repeat it is not right. And us men, young boys, lets learn to let it out. Let’s learn to speak. Yes be vulnerable, someone somewhere out there will see and understand your pain and make you feel better and only you can do that for yourself. And to my fans thank you for everything, thank you for standing with me,” he said.
The actor's apology comes after multiple reports dating back to 2016, when Mmola sought justice after alleging that her former husband had physically assaulted her on several occasions, some of which occurred in view of their children at their Kibler Park home, located south of Johannesburg.
In the video, Sebotsane further acknowledged the disappointment he caused not just to his family but to his fans.
“To my fans, thank you for everything, thank you for standing with me. And to those that I disappointed, I am sorry. I am only human; I don’t want to testify anything, wrong is wrong. Let’s make things right.”
