Long distance taxi operators are expected to resume services on Thursday, after two days of protests across Durban this week.
It was previously reported that operators barricaded roads in and around the Durban city centre over issues around permits and police impounding more than 20 taxis as part of ongoing Operation Shanela efforts.
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma, said his office met with aggrieved operators.
He said following engagements, the Durban Long Distance Association will resume their operations.
"The stability of the taxi industry is in the interest of taxi operators, commuters, and the growth of the economy of this province. To this end, a meeting will be held on Thursday and attended by taxi operators, the department, and other key role-players," Duma said.
In a statement issued on Wednesday evening, MEC Duma said his office along with government stakeholders, including provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, met with the DLTA where they agreed that drivers would collect their permits.
MEC Duma added that, that was the reason for all the taxi operators visiting their offices early on Wednesday morning.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, several roads in and around the Greyville and greater Durban areas were severely affected the taxi protest.
