Police at Sebayeng, under Capricorn District in Limpopo, have arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with the brutal murder of a 35-year-old man.
The murdered man is believed to be the boyfriend of the alleged killer’s ex-girlfriend, according to Limpopo provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
The murder happened on Monday, at about 3am at Makotopong, Mokwasele village.
“Police received a complaint about two males who were busy fighting in the area and allegedly stabbed each other and rushed to the vicinity. Upon arrival they found a 35-year-old male victim lying on the ground with multiple stab wounds on the upper body,” said Ledwaba.
Members of the emergency medical services (EMS) were summoned to the scene and they declared the victim dead upon their arrival.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was at his residence when a 30-year-old male suspect approached him and started to argue with him over his ex-girlfriend. The duo started to fight and the suspect took out a sharp object and stabbed the victim on the upper body and later fled the scene on foot afterwards,” said Ledwaba.
An immediate manhunt of the killer was launched and the 30-year-old man was subsequently apprehended on the same day of the murder.
Police said he was arrested while trying to flee from his residence at Sebayeng location.
“The suspect is currently admitted at a hospital under police guard after he sustained injuries during the fight with the deceased,” said Ledwaba.
On Wednesday the alleged killer is scheduled to appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court, in absentia, facing a charge of murder.
