Celebrate Valentine’s weekend with J'Something and Coco at the Lover's Rock Picnic in Joburg

Renowned local musician J’Something (real name Joao da Fonseca) and his wife Coco (real name Cordelia Fonseca) are one of Mzansi’s favourite couples.

The pair, who often share romantic posts on social media, have been inseparable since they got married back in 2015. They are also renowned for their of food, with even opening the popular eatery, Artistry in Sandton in March 2024

In a bid to celebrate their union as well as their passion for food this Valentine’s Day, the Fonseca’s are hosting the “Lover's Rock Food and Music Picnic” on Saturday, February 15, in Joburg.

The Mi Casa lead singer recently took to Facebook to announce that the event is also a way to celebrate their milestone anniversary.

“This is a moment curated by Coco and I that we absolutely cannot wait to experience together with all of you.”

He added: “On a personal level, it’s our 10 year celebration of our marriage but more so it’s a moment we hope will be a celebration of love at large. Love of music. Love of food. Love for one another.”

Meanwhile, some of the nation’s biggest stars are set to perform at Lover’s Rock.

They include Manana, Shekinah, DJ Fresh, DJ Kent and Akio. These musicians will be joined by Kenhero, Mamthug, Jay Em, Dindie as well as Chad Daniels and KB.

The gathering, which is powered by 947Joburg, will also allow you to make the most of the great outdoors as you enjoy some delicious eats while enjoying live music and creating long-lasting memories.

Picnic baskets are welcome as well as blankets. Attendees can also enjoy the Picnic Tasting Experience, which will be curated by the renowned Sandton restaurant, Artistry.

In addition, certain ticket-holders will also be able to access an open-plan seating area in the heart of the venue as well as exclusive goodies, private waiters, a private bar for food and bottle service, VIP access and parking, low-lifted floor trays and a luscious tree-shaded seating area at the acclaimed Crab Apple's area.

Take a trip down memory lane with the UK’s most iconic retro festival, “Let’s Rock”, which will be making its South Africa debut in Jozi on Saturday, February 15.

The headline act for the musical extravaganza will be 80s music icons, the Thompson twins', Tom Bailey and Midge Ure.

“These legendary performers are set to bring the true essence of the retro experience straight from the UK to South Africa’s stages,” the organisers said.

Some of their timeless hits of the duo which went on to shape a generation include “Hold Me Now”, “Doctor Doctor”, “You Take Me Up” and “Love On Your Side”.

Meanwhile, Hollow Coves, which consists of vocalists and guitarists Ryan Henderson and Matt Carins, will also perform at “Let’s Rock” Joburg as part of their ‘’Nothing to Lose’’ Tour.

In addition, some of the supporting acts will be Steve Louw's Big Sky, Just Jinjer, PJ Powers, Cindy Alter, John Ellis, James Stewart, Brent Harris and Thee Jam.

Many of these artists will also be taking to the stage at “Let’s Rock” Durban.

“For those looking for more than nostalgia, 'Let’s Rock' is also renowned for its fun, family-friendly atmosphere, offering something for every generation to enjoy,” the organisers added.

“It’s an epic line-up and will be the ultimate retro party.”

Dog-friendly Valentine’s Day picnic at Syringa Park

Celebrate Valentine’s Day on Friday, February 14, with an evening sunsets, delicious food, and live music and Syringa Park’s dog-friendly Valentine’s Day picnic.

The event includes a complimentary drink on arrival and a picnic basket, which can be pre-ordered online, filled with gourmet delights.

“Bring along a picnic blanket or purchase one on-site for added comfort and let your four-legged companions tag along,” the organisers said.

Attendees can also order food and drinks from the food stalls ahead of the event or at the park.

Where: Syringa Park in Krugersdorp.

When: Friday, February 14.

Cost: Entry is free but registration is required through Quicket. The cost for an empty picnic basket is R150 and can be purchased in advance on Quicket or on-site on the day.
