As South Africa marks three decades of democracy, Durban’s vibrant music scene gears up for the much-anticipated Fact Durban Rocks festival.
Set to take place at the People's Park at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, this year’s event promises not only incredible performances but also an unforgettable celebration of music, culture, and the enduring spirit of freedom.
Renowned DJ and record producer, DJ Tira, a pillar in the South African music industry, expressed his enthusiasm for the event.
“Bringing this year's event is hectic but I managed to secure some legends in the game that will be able to celebrate the 30 years of democracy with us,” he shared.
He highlighted the stellar line-up that includes iconic acts such as TKZee and Professor, who are poised to light up the stage on December 31.
The festival will feature a blend of established stars and promising emerging artists. Alongside DJ Tira, attendees can look forward to performances from a host of talent including Sjava, Zee Nxumalo, Mthandeni SK and Big Zulu, among others.
Charismatic MCs Pume, Sizwe Mdlalose and Gagasi FM's Felix Hlope will also host the event.
DJ Tira acknowledged the historical significance of the event: “Fact Durban Rocks has been around since 2011, and since then we have been cooking the brand.
“We come from afar. We were born during democracy, so we have to celebrate. We are one of the longest-standing events in Durban that is still hosting people every year, hence it’s also very important to celebrate this journey.”
With an expected turnout of thousands, the festival is more than just a musical gathering; it’s an embodiment of South Africa’s rich cultural heritage.
“It is a fact that our music rocks and it's also a fact that our city rocks. We still have the best summer, the best artists, and the best sound, so it’s important for me to keep Fact Durban Rocks going,” he added.
Tickets for the event are available at Ticketpro and Spar and cost between R200 and R1200.
For those looking to bring refreshments, cooler boxes are permitted in the general area between 5-7 pm, with medium-sized boxes priced at R200 and large ones at R300, but glass containers are strictly prohibited.
DJ Tira reflected on the festival's past successes, recalling when international star Chris Brown was hosted in the city for another event on the same date but managed to make beautiful sales.
“We had over 20,000 attendees. I was very proud. This showed me that it doesn't matter who’s in town or what’s happening around; we will remain the best.”
