At a recent media conference, Smash Afrika opened up about his new TV gig and what the fans could expect from him in the new season.
“There’s a lot of hard work that goes into ‘Big Brother Mzansi’ during the festive season, so by the time I arrive, I know what the heck I’m talking about, what I’m doing and essentially what the object of what a live host speaks to," he said.
For the media launch, Smash Afrika who wore a bright orange two piece number that was covered in flower detail, told the media that viewers can expect more crazy outfits from him during the season.
“I’m hoping that I influence culture in terms of how we express ourselves and people are just comfortable with that,” he said.
Season five launches with a brand new theme “Umlilo”, which means "fire" in isiZulu and the pressure will be raised in the new season.
Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net, remarked that this season the number of people who entered was a “huge improvement” from the last.
“We know it's not just about the two million rand, which, of course, is a big deal," Adonisi said.
"It's also about the opportunity that this platform actually gives to our regular South Africans, who may not necessarily be actors, as you see on our telenovelas or reality shows, but they just come as themselves. Which I think is the hardest rule to ever play and be exposed to the public.”
'Big Brother Mzansi' season five premieres on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
