Fresh off her historic debut as the first amapiano DJ to headline the Wireless Festival in July, Uncle Waffles has once again made waves by becoming the first black woman to headline the iconic Brooklyn Mirage in New York City.

The Brooklyn Mirage is a major venue in New York, known for hosting some of the world's top electronic music artists like Thundercat, Kaytranada and Diplo, just to name a few.

Although the venue has seen the likes of American rapper, Noname, who is a black woman. Uncle Waffles is the first black woman to headline the venue.

Headlining the Wireless Festival in July was a historic moment not just for Uncle Waffles but for the amapiano community as a whole.

The festival, which is one of the largest urban music events in the world, predominantly features hip hop, R&B, and grime artists.

Now, with her recent performance at the Brooklyn Mirage, Uncle Waffles, real name Lungelihle Zwane, continues to push boundaries. Her headlining set further solidifies her status as a trailblazer.

For a South African amapiano DJ to headline such an event highlights how far the genre has come and how much love it receives on global stages.

Her performance at Wireless was a defining moment, signalling the influence of amapiano on the global music stage she continues to break barriers and set new standards.

She took to X, thanking her international fans for showing up even though it was raining.

Fans filled up the venue to witness the history making, with Kelvin Momo, Oscar Mbo and 2wo Bunnies as supporting acts. Interbational rapper, JoeyBADASS later joined her on stage to perform the Wadibusa remix.
