In a recent event that left many fans concerned, Rebecca Malope, a well-known gospel singer, took a tumble while on stage at the funeral of her close friend, Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule.
On Saturday, the artist took a fall on stage while she was performing one of her hit songs “Ngiyekeleni”.
In her explanation on TshisaLive, Malope revealed that the high heels she had chosen to wear made her feel unstable even while standing.
However, in an expression of respect for her late friend, she emphasised that wearing sneakers to the funeral was not an option.
“I couldn't wear sneakers to the funeral. I had to show respect at Zanele's funeral. I wore high heels which caused me to trip on stage,” the artist said.
Malope also shared that she has been overwhelmed with messages of concern from friends and family since the incident. She also said her falling is a clear indication that she is ageing and no longer has that youth energy.
“Since Saturday, I’ve been receiving text messages from friends and family checking up on me. I think I am getting old and I'm no longer that energetic,” Malope said.
The artist also said that even though she fell many times, she was grateful that her friend received a proper burial and her work was showcased successfully.
Additionally, the “Hamba Juba” hit maker said she bruised her knee and twisted her ankle. She also said that she will be nursing her injuries at home.
“I'll be taking a rest and nursing my knee at home, using ointments to make it better. I thank God I suffered minor injuries,” she said.
