US singer Mariah Carey’s mother Patricia and sister Alison died on the same day over the weekend.
The multi-Grammy award singer shared the devastating news in a statement released to People.
"My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.
"I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed," added the 55 year old singer
"I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my , privacy during this impossible time."
Mariah’s mother 87, was a Juilliard-trained opera singer and vocal coach before she married Alfred Roy Carey. Her parents divorced when she was 3 years old, she has a younger brother Morgan.

In her statement, Carey did not disclose the causes of her mother and sister’s death.
Carey’s mom, Patricia, was an opera singer and sang with her daughter on several occasions. They had a complicated relationship.
In her 2020 memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey”, the singer said: "Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities. It's a never been only black-and-white — it's been a whole rainbow of emotions.
"Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment.”
