Durban — The police arrested three murder suspects a few minutes after a man was stabbed to death.
Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said: “Swift response by the police has led to the arrests of three suspects, few minutes after they allegedly stabbed a 21-year-old man to death and attempted to kill his father at South Beach, Durban on Saturday afternoon.”
Netshiunda said that it was reported that the victim informed his father that he was assaulted by a group of young men and together with his father, they reportedly approached the suspects.
“During the confrontation three suspects allegedly produced knives and stabbed the son multiple times and he was certified dead at the scene.
“The 46-year-old father was also reported to have sustained multiple stab wounds and was rushed to hospital for immediate medical attention,” Netshiunda said.
“The police who were deployed in the area responded swiftly to the incident and arrested the three suspects along the South Beach.”
Netshiunda said that the three will appear in court soon on charges of murder and attempted murder.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, the Verulam Regional Court found Shalendra Samath, 37, guilty of stabbing his 62-year-old mother, Ormilla Samath multiple times at Everest Heights during a fight over money in July 2021.
He then took her cash and fled the scene.
Netshiunda said that Shalendra was convicted of killing his mother and was sentenced to life imprisonment and another 15 years for robbery.
Shalendra remained in police custody until his sentencing, Netshiunda said.
