Durban — Two suspects were arrested while three fled in Chatsworth after a chase ensued with a private security company on Tuesday.

Pro Secure reported that on Tuesday at around 1.55pm, their control room received information about a suspicious vehicle in the Kharwastan area.

“Our SRU (specialised response unit) team were immediately dispatched and the vehicle, a silver grey Kia, was spotted in Oak Avenue, Kharwastan,” Pro Secure said.

It said when the vehicle was approached by SRU members, they saw that five men were seated inside and behaved in a suspicious manner.

“While being questioned they began to speed off,” Pro Secure said.

The specialised response unit together with back-up members gave chase and intercepted the vehicle on Higginson Highway.

“The vehicle was further inspected, but the licence plates on the vehicle did not match the registration disc,” Pro Secure said.

It said the occupants were asked to exit the vehicle and while three suspects managed to escape in a dense bush, two suspects were arrested.

The company said the police arrived shortly afterwards.

“The vehicle was searched by SAPS and various items were found including cloned registration plates, 2 x unlicensed firearms with live ammunition, 3 x cellphones and various other housebreaking tools were recovered,” Pro Secure said.

“Suspects were then taken to Bayview SAPS for further processing.”

Pro Secure’s executive applauded the work of the SRU and said: “We are certainly Chatsworth’s number one security services provider.”

Police had not responded by the time of publication.
