Durban — An armed robber was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment by the Durban Regional Court recently.
eThekwini District SAPS spokesperson Captain Carmen Rhynes said that on March 4 last year at 1.56pm a 33-year-old complainant was at his residence in Yellowwood Park when he was approached by an unknown male who robbed him at gunpoint of his laptop.
A few days later, on March 7 last year, the complainant spotted the suspect and informed the police and community patrollers.
The suspect, Siphamandla Mthimkhulu, 33, was arrested and the case was allocated to Sergeant BG Dlamini of Montclair Trio Crimes for investigation.
“On August 11 the accused was found guilty in Durban Regional Court and sentenced to 16 years imprisonment for armed robbery. The accused was also declared unfit to possess a firearm,” Rhynes said.
Acting commissioner Brigadier VJ Cele welcomed the sentencing and praised Sergeant Dlamini's investigation skills in the matter.
Cele said Sergeant Dlamini ensured that the accused was placed behind bars for a long time, adding that he would not be committing any more crimes in communities.
