Durban — The body of a missing boy, 9, who was presumed to have drowned, was recovered four days after he went missing.
Medi Response spokesperson Paul Herbst said the boy’s body was “found by the community on day four”.
Police have been approached for comment.
The boy was presumed to have drowned in Tugela Ferry on Tuesday.
Search-and-rescue personnel started searching for the boy’s body on Tuesday.
Herbst said that the search yielded negative results on Tuesday.
Medi Response’s search-and-rescue division assisted SAPS dive and K9 search-and-rescue units with search efforts.
“Despite deploying multiple resources across a vast area, no positive results were yielded and the search was suspended,” Herbst had said.
On the morning of day two of the search, IOL reported that the boy and his friends had been swimming in the river.
Herbst said that reports indicated that the boy jumped off a rock into the river, which is quite fast-flowing, and never surfaced.
