Durban — A 55-year-old high school teacher facing six counts of rape, was told his case was trial ready when he appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Magistrate Wendalynn Robinson transferred the case to a regional court that will deal with the trial in January.
The teacher, who had been working at the Clermont high school since 2008, was arrested at the school in April, and in May, he was released on bail of R5 000 with conditions that he relocates to his chosen alternative address in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
In the first count of rape, he allegedly raped a 17- year-old on March 16.
In the second count, he is alleged on that same day to have inserted his finger in her genitals.
In count three, it is alleged that on January 19, the teacher raped another 17-year-old. Six days after this incident, it is alleged that the accused inserted his finger into the genitals of the same victim.
The accused is also charged with exposure of genitals to a child, where it is alleged that in 2021, the accused allegedly pulled down his pants, showing his privates to the 17-year-old victim at the school.
In February, he is alleged to have inserted his finger into the genitals of another 17-year-old victim, and it is alleged that the victim was also raped more than once. This is count six.
He is alleged to have repeated this again in March to the same victim.
The accused also faces a charge of sexual grooming of children. This is in relation to another 17-year-old victim.
