Cape Town - Higher Education, Science and Technology Minister Blade Nzimande has commended the Human Science Research Council (HSRC) Board for appointing Professor Sarah Mosoetsa as their new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
She will vacate her role as CEO at the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS) to take over the reins at the HSRC on February 1, 2023.
Mosoetsa was instrumental in establishing and setting up the NIHSS in 2013 and has held the position of CEO at the Institute since 2014.
Congratulating Mosoetsa, Nzimande said she brings her considerable expertise and knowledge from academia as well as path breaking work at the helm of the NIHSS.
“Professor Mosoetsa has worked very closely with scholars across the post-school education and training system, and policy administrators in both Departments of Science and Innovation and Higher Education and Training on tackling various development challenges. This has included outstanding work in restoring the place of the social sciences and humanities disciplines across the university system, and a highly successful doctoral expansion programme in the humanities and social sciences,” said Nzimande.
He said Mosoetsa also played a pivotal role in the policy research studies measuring the impact of Covid-19 on marginalized communities.
“I would like to wish Professor Mosoetsa well in her role as CEO of one of South Africa’s leading science councils, particularly as we gear up our capacity to promote the policy goals of the White Paper on Science and Innovation (2019) and Decadal Plan into the next decade,” said Nzimande.
