An accident involving a taxi transporting school children, a light motor vehicle and a scooter resulted in the death of a pedestrian and 15 pupils were injured.
Multiple emergency services were dispatched to Dr Chota Motala Road on Tuesday morning at around 7am following a multiple vehicle collision.
Mi7 National Group spokesperson Colin Davids said when Emergency Medical Services medics arrived on the scene, they found that a minibus taxi had crashed into pedestrians and other vehicles.
“Mi7 medics quickly got to work, assessing a number of patients, including school-going children,” he said.
During the quick assessments paramedics found that three patients had sustained serious injuries and a further 12 had sustained minor injuries, said Kwazulu Private Ambulance Service spokesperson Craig Botha.
Midlands EMS spokesperson Roland Roberston said the accident involved a school taxi, a scooter and a light motor vehicle.
Robertson said a total of 15 children sustained minor to moderate injuries.
“Sadly, a pedestrian has sustained fatal injuries and has been declared deceased on scene,” he said.
He said Midlands EMS, as well as other emergency medical services transported all the patients to local medical facilities for further treatment.
