DURBAN - National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has thanked the Search and Rescue teams for their patriotism as they continue to look for people who are still missing after the recent devastating KZN floods.
Masemola visited Virginia Airport where the Search and Rescues teams are based, with his management team on Monday.
In a statement on Tuesday, police said since the disaster struck in April, search and rescue teams have been working around the clock assisting families to find their loved ones who were swept away in the floods.
Masemola applauded the dedication and patriotism displayed by all involved.
“Thank you for all that you have done for this country. You have indeed displayed patriotism. All of you are our national pride. We thank you for your dedication and commitment to the cause of serving. Your good deeds will indeed be written in the books of history," he said.
He also thanked the teams for the seamless integrated cooperation and coordination of expertise.
The SAPS has deployed front line officers, diving teams, K9 units and various vessels, helicopters and fixed air wing planes to the most affected areas.
