It's okay to mix business with pleasure

London - Never mix business with pleasure, the saying goes. Well, it seems we soon won't have any choice in the matter.

Trend predictors have coined a new term - bleisure - for an uneasy hybrid of business and leisure which is apparently the future.

The idea is that the traditional nine to five office job will be replaced by a more flexible working arrangement where individuals work from home, creating virtual offices via video-conferencing, email and phone. As such, you'll be at liberty to conference call while walking the dog, email from your bed and negotiate deals while doing all the prep for that evening's dinner party.

The experts argue that rises in fuel prices will make commuting so ruinously expensive that working from home will be the only viable option.

In many ways, it sounds idyllic. No more nose-to-tail commutes, no more having to book time off work, or being tied to one area of the country because of its proximity to the office.

Instead, you can decamp to the country, slob around the house in pyjamas, be "at work" when you're in the bath and actually be around when your kids come home from school.

The downside to bleisure is the fact that if there's no office, there's no shutting the door on the office at the end of the day. In fact, there's no end of the day. Don't like it when your bosses call you on a Sunday to check some details for the next day's meeting?
