Durban – Former #FeesMustFall activist and Wits graduate, Mcebo Dlamini, says his life is in danger after he was mistaken for one of the suspects arrested for the murder of Hillary Gardee, the daughter of Godrich Gardee.
Dlamini’s mistaken identity stems from the fact that one of the suspects is alleged to be from Swaziland, and is a former SRC president in one of the Gauteng institutions of higher learning.
In a Facebook post on Sunday morning, Dlamini who was once the president of the Wits SRC (students representative council), said he was getting calls even from journalists.
“Can the name of the killer be released, instead of saying he is from Swaziland and a former Wits SRC president? Now my name is circulating… I have even received calls from journalists,” he wrote.
He later told the Daily News that his life was now in danger as a result of this mistaken identity.
“My name is circulating all over Twitter, and my pictures… They say I am the killer. I am now even too scared to walk out of my house. My relatives from KwaZulu-Natal have been calling to say they are worried. It is shocking how low people can think of me… They are putting my life in great danger of being killed by mob justice,” Dlamini said.
Meanwhile, the SAPS on Sunday announced that a third suspect has been arrested in connection with Hillary Gardee’s murder.
The suspects are expected to appear in court on Monday.
