Cable thief caught red-handed by security company and residents in Isipingo Beach

DURBAN - A private security company and residents on the south coast of Durban apprehended a cable thief while he was committing the crime.

In a Facebook post, PT Alarms said their tactical officers and residents of Isipingo Beach, sprung into action, pursued and apprehended a cable thief on Wednesday.

“It is alleged that a resident passing by saw the male interfering with the cable on Delta Road. The resident informed a patrolling PT Alarms tactical officer. PT Alarms Tactical requested back-up and the suspect was identified and fled upon seeing the PT officers,” the company said.

“A chase ensued and the suspect ran into the lagoon. The relentless PT tactical officers continued the pursuit together with some residents and the suspect was apprehended on Steenbras Road.”

PT Alarms said the suspect was found in possession of the copper cable he had stolen.

The company said Isipingo SAPS was contacted and arrived on scene. The suspect was handed over to the police.

Police had not commented to a media query by the time of publication.
