Cape Town – The burnt body of a man was found dumped in an open field on Wednesday morning in Isiqalo informal settlement.

According to residents, the victim is in his mid-20s.

The body was discovered by a group of workers who were on their way to a bus stop at about 7am.

Police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala said no arrests have been made yet and the motive remained unknown.

“The circumstances surrounding the murder of an unidentified male are under investigation.

“(On) May 18, at about 8.30am, Philippi police were informed of a burnt body that was found by community members in Isiqalo informal settlement, Philippi,” said Gwala.

Community activist Luvuyo Ndaba said they would have a meeting over the weekend to discuss the issue.

“We suspect that the incident happened elsewhere then the body was dumped in our area because we have searched from the residents who live nearby and all they say is that no one heard anything and they are shocked just like anyone else.

“The body seems to be of a young man and it might happen that he was caught stealing or he was wanted for something he has done.

“Speaking to you now, there is a group of young boys that are wanted by the community.

“On Tuesday, they were caught stealing in one of the houses but all of them managed to escape, because the owner of the house is an old man and could not chase them.

“We do have patrollers in our area but what we have noticed is that these boys commit these crimes during the day when everyone is relaxed at their houses and others are at work,” said Ndaba,
